Acoustic Grade Accompaniment 

In the exam the candidate will be shown a chord chart for the melody the examiner will play. They will then be given a one bar count-in and the examiner will play the melody once so the candidate can listen to it without playing along. Then there will be another count-in and the melody will be played for three more times. The first of the three will not be assessed so play the chords on the first beat to get a feel for the chord progression then play a rhythm or picking style that relates to the timing and the melody being played. Think style, mood, flare. While you practice experiment with your own musical ideas and vary the final verse to show your instinctive ability. We all have it but we practice to improve it. Finally, do not stop! the melody will continue without you. It is far better you play along badly than not play along at all.
